| How, when and why... |

...did our upstairs neighbours turn from quiet people that barely made a sound into screaming, stomping, pounding maniacs that sing along to bad Asian music at the top of their lungs at all hours of the morning? More importantly: how do I turn them back into their quiet selves? Where's the mute button? |

| Oh, you're a Christian prick, well, I guess that makes it ok then. |

On Saturday someone told me 'by the time I get home it will be far to late to make it in time for church tomorrow morning'. My first thought: 'What? You're a Christian? Then how come you're such a prick?' But what I said was 'well, you might just make it in time for the afternoon service if you go now.'
Unlimited loving-kindness toward all others? I think he missed that part. As long as you show up in church once a week nothing else really matters much, right? |

| Downside |
[Sep. 17th, 2007|01:26 pm] |
Last week I was confronted with one of the downsides of trying to get in touch with artists whose work you appreciate. They might just disappoint you.
This Dutch band I quite like is releasing a new album this week, so a few weeks back I decided this was a perfect chance to interview them and give them some well-deserved attention on our website.
I sent off an email to one of the band members, asking if they were interested in an interview. I got a positive reply within the hour, so I returned all the details promptly, got terribly excited, researched my ass off and listened to the band's music non-stop for a couple of days.
Then the big wait for the next reply began. After waiting for about a week, I sent a follow-up, to which I got a swift reply again with sincere apologies, but then the silence returned. Haven't heard from them since. What really bothers me is that other news media seem to have gotten through to them, as interviews have been popping up in various media outlets left, right and center. I suppose we're not important enough.
I think it's a real shame. I was really looking forward to this interview and I don't quite understand why it's no longer happening, after the initial positive response.
From a communication/PR point of view this particular band certainly gets a thumbs down. I've noticed bands that seem unwilling to cooperate suddenly appear a lot less interesting musically too - funny that. |

| Planning conflicts |
[Jul. 29th, 2007|11:29 pm] |
Looking at the killer line-up all crammed into just one day, I knew planning my schedule for this year's Lowlands festival was going to be problematic. I didn't expect it to suck this bad though. According to the planner, Tool is scheduled exactly opposite Dinosaur Jr.
For me that's like choosing what ear to cut off.* I feel I'm being punished for having an eclectic taste in music.
* I'd go for the left, as I believe that's got some slight hearing damage. Not sure what band that would equate to though... |
