Not a happy kitty

One of our kitties was walking around with his tongue hanging out, drooling all over everything, so we took him to the vet yesterday.
Bad news, as all his gums were seriously infected and some of his teeth were even about to fall out.
This morning he's back at the vet and she's going to take all his teeth out. All of them! He'll be forever teethless in a couple of hours.

Poor kitty must have been in so much pain :(

The Appleseed Cast - Sagarmatha

The second contender for my best of list came a lot sooner than expected. The Appleseed Cast have a new one coming out on February 17, entitled Sagarmatha.

I don't like how their font has suddenly gone Deftones, but fortunately the music still sounds pretty good.

Election night

I spend the night of the US election at my new job. Only two of us actually had to work, the rest showed up for support, free drinks and a good atmosphere. It was really cool to be among fellow news-geeks on such an important night. Four of us, including myself, had to work the next day, when we were decidedly less enthusiastic, but somehow still functioning.

(That's me with the McCain/Palin sign, trying to even out our journalistic bias)
Also along for support was the cutest rabbit I've ever seen.

The intern brought it along, because she was working such a long shift he was going to be home alone for almost two days. He proved to be a real hit, with just about the entire office coming over to pet him.

If only we would get this excited about the Dutch elections

I think Putnam should revise his whole theory of Bowling Alone and rename the book to Bowling Online. Great book, nice concept, but I can help but feel it's already fairly outdated. Surely the internet puts people back in touch with their communities?

I can't believe it took me this long to find out about this, but here's a website with more free books than you can shake a stick at.

No time to read, you say? Don't like reading walls of text from your computer screen? They're one step ahead of you. You can have daily bite-sized instalments sent to your email or add them to your RSS. You spend a lot of time each day reading email and your RSS feeds, so you might as well throw in an extra five minutes a day to read some class literature.

Just make sure you don't go overboard and sign up for 16 books at once, as that sort of defeats the whole concept.

Music tastes link to personality

I call bollocks on this research that apparently shows music is related to personality. I like jazz, rock/heavy metal, dance and 'indie' (whatever the fuck that is), so I'm both gentle and not gentle, not outgoing and outgoing, whilst I have both low and high self-esteem. Are they saying I suffer from Dissociative Identity Disorder?
I wonder how they defined their variables. Someone please humour me and attempt a definition of 'indie'.
